Outreach

The mission of the Outreach Commission is to support and encourage the congregation to be the face of Christ in our community and the world.  Our local efforts and activities include financial, in-kind and volunteer support of Alameda and Bay Area agencies, and helping facilitate Christ Church's hosting of community events such as the annual Thanksgiving Dinner. Our international efforts focus on programs identified by our parishioners, such our upcoming mission trip to El Salvador in 2009.

Please join us and bring your gift of time and talent so that we can carry out God's work in the world. Meetings are held on the first Monday of the month at 7 p.m. in room 210 and all are welcome.

Toys for Tots

An annual project run through Red Cross that provides Christmas presents for families in need.  We set up barrels to collect toys and connect volunteers with Red Cross to carry out this wonderful ministry.

Thanksgiving Dinner

The Outreach Commission helps to host this annual event at Christ Church.  Last year, over 800 meals were served in our parish hall and another 175 were delivered to home-bound residents.

After-School Care

Ruby Bridges Elementary School, which is attended by children living at the Alameda Point Collaborative, is in need of volunteers to mentor with children in its after-school program.  Please sign up with us if you are interested in this program.

Ecumenical Group

This is a recently formed committee working with Trinity Lutheran and First Congregational Churches in Alameda to support the Alameda Point Collaborative, an organization that houses formerly homeless families on the closed Naval base.  Recently, we donated school supplies to start off the school year and we are currently collecting linens and cleaning supplies as housewarming gifts for new families.

Food Pantry

An offshoot of Outreach, The Food Pantry serves high quality food to hungry Alamedans every Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall.  Join our volunteer group by coming to set up, serve, or tidy up any Tuesday.

A Transitional Prayer,

Almighty and Loving God,

We pray for our community during this time of transition. We pray that your presence may be known among us, guiding us in our journey. Help us to understand this time as holy, a time for discovery, renewal, and joy. We pray for the gifts of courage, patience, perseverance and discernment.  And when it is your will to do so, grant us a servant who will travel our new road with us – in your time, not ours.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
