ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIESforCONGREGATION AND LEADERSChrist Episcopal ChurchAlameda, CA“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are varieties of service, but the same Lord. There are many forms of work, but all of them, in all persons, are the work of the same God”. 1 Cor. 12:4-7 PURPOSEThis document is meant to serve as an orientation and training guide to those who accept new leadership positions within Christ Church. This is a living document and is intended to raise awareness of leadership roles and responsibilities, provide guidance around our parish’s organizing structure, and help achieve the alignment necessary to fulfill the vision, mission, and goals of Christ Church (see Exhibit I). The authors do not intend this document to be used by members of Christ Episcopal Church as a rulebook.INTRODUCTIONAs the parish of Christ Episcopal Church and in keeping with our Baptismal Covenant, we strive to serve Christ by living and working together in a collegial, cooperative, interdependent community of congregation, clergy, staff, and vestry. We suggest that the specific work that individuals pursue on behalf of Christ Church be in the context of Vocation, which is discovered at, and is defined as, the intersection of each person’s deepest desire and the world’s need. We also suggest that leadership roles and responsibilities must be shaped with an eye toward the talents, desires, and experience of the lay and clergy of Christ Church. The Vestry is the responsible custodian and ongoing author of these Roles and Responsibilities. AUTHORSHIPThis document was created by a Roles and Responsibilities Working Group at the request of the Christ Episcopal Church Rector and Wardens. Its membership included:Dave Appleton Jackie Fielding Hale Foote Madelyn Merola Sandy Merola, Facilitator Helen Sause Vicki Sedlack Reverend Ted Thompson. It was submitted to the Vestry on July 20, 2004, after discussion with Parish Council and Parish Staff. Additional upgrades for approval were submitted by Lisa Shannon and Jim Keltner. Upon appropriate reflection it was adopted on August 19, 2008. Their names have been added both to set precedence for future changes as well as to produce a document change/update record. |

Sundays
Almighty and Loving God,
We pray for our community during this time of transition. We pray that your presence may be known among us, guiding us in our journey. Help us to understand this time as holy, a time for discovery, renewal, and joy. We pray for the gifts of courage, patience, perseverance and discernment. And when it is your will to do so, grant us a servant who will travel our new road with us – in your time, not ours.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
